Water Bucket Walk

Have you always wanted to do something for a noble cause, but are not quite sure where to go or what to do? Well Dubai Cares has the perfect opportunity for you! To commemorate the United Nations’ Universal Children’s day, Dubai Cares is inviting the UAE community to participate in a Water Bucket Walk, in support of children globally who do not have access to clean drinking water in schools. Dubai Cares welcomes the participation of individuals, families, schools, corporations, government bodies, social, ethnic and religious clubs and all other entities to participate in the Water Bucket Walk. Why walk 3 km with a bucket? On average, children in developing countries walk more than 6 km every day to collect water that is likely to make them sick. The lengthy time spent daily to collect water prevents many children from attending school. The Water Bucket Walk will give the UAE community the opportunity to experience a fraction of the difficulties children in developing countries face on a daily basis, by walking 3 km carrying a bucket much like a child in a rural community would do daily. When and where will the Water Bucket Walk take place? The Water Bucket Walk is scheduled to commence on Friday November 20th, 2009 which will coincide with the 20th anniversary of the United Nations’ Universal Children’s Day. The Water Bucket Walk will take place on Jumeirah Beach Road. Registration will start from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M. at Jumeirah Beach Park and the walk-a-thon will begin at 9:00 A.M on Jumeirah Beach Road. Interested...AED 30 = providing one child access to clean drinking water for one year? An entry fee of AED 30 will be required from all participants so that every man, woman, or child who walks in the Water Bucket Walk will represent one child’s access to clean water for one year. Additionally, all registered participants will receive a Dubai Cares bucket and t-shirt. Please note: Children under the age of 5 will be exempt from any fees.
